Heritage Hill Estate – Centurion

The history of Heritage Hill Estate started in the Cape when a young adventurer named Pieter Erasmus arrived in 1688 and settled on a farm named “Groenkloof’ aged just 19. He married Maria Elisabeth Joosten in 1691 and they had six children. One of his descendants Daniel Jacobus Erasmus, staked out his farm which today is Pretoria. In 1841 the Erasmus family arrived in the area that would later become Centurion. The younger brother of Daniel Jacobus Erasmus was Rasmus Elardus Erasmus (Died 1891), aka ‘Dubbele’. He settled on the farm Brakfontein and married Louisa Catharina Erasmus (Died 1902). They had ten children. They built a small Voortrekker house in 1856, and a larger Victorian homestead was completed by his son Lourens Jacobus Abram Erasmus in 1895. The Grandson of ‘Dubbele’, Rasmus Elardus Erasmus married Lucia Erasmus in 1939 and built a home not too far from the original grand homestead. Rassie and Lucy were married for 53 years and can celebrate seven generations on the property since 1841. This great South African family was involved in the Great Trek and many wars including the battles of Italeni, Vegkop and Bloodriver. They were successful farmers and had strong relationships with the political leaders. This is the spirit and legacy that today is Heritage Hill Estate.
